On
the left, the Mosasaurus was a definitive presence among the
reptiles of the sea. As many as forty species are known to have
existed, having reached lengths of 29 feet. Unlike Ichthyosaurs,
Mosasaurs persisted until the end of Mesozoic period, shown
here snapping up a Pternadon, who reached wingspans of 23 feet
towards the late Cretaceous period.
